VW plans three hot Golfs
According to Autocar.co.uk, Volkswagen is planning to launch three all-new performance VW Golf variants within the next three years.
(1) A performance diesel Golf – dubbed the GTD - is scheduled for launch in the spring of 2009. It will use the VW Group’s latest twin-turbocharged 2.0-litre TDI engine, offering in excess of 200bhp and 260lb ft torque.
(2) VW is also looking at a Golf GTI 'plus' model. This harder-core version of the GTI will use a tuned version of the standard car’s 2.0-litre TSI engine to deliver up to 270bhp. It will also have a seven-speed DSG gearbox and a Haldex clutch providing non-permanent four-wheel-drive.
This GTI 'plus' will replace the current-generation R32, although it also looks set to come close to entering the territory already occupied by sister company Audi’s S3.
(3) The final new performance Golf is likely to be another 'R' variant, possibly the 'R42', which is pencilled in for a 2010 launch. This will use a 2.5-litre turbocharged five-cylinder engine that will be shared with the forthcoming Audi TT RS, giving the Golf around 350bhp along with competitive fuel economy and CO2 figures.
According to Volkswagen insiders the spate of new high performance Golfs has been brought about by an influx of Audi engineers into Volkswagen, and a move to bring about more component sharing between the two companies.
Oil Drops more than $10 a Barrel after US Bailout plan rejected
Unless you have being living in your own world, you have probably heard that the House on Monday rejected a $700 billion emergency rescue plan for the nation's financial system in the US. The price of oil slumped and global financial meltdown loomed after the bill pushed by the Bush administration was voted down.
What you may not have heard is that aside from the fact that the Dow Jones industrial average plunged 778 points, oil prices also fell a staggering $10.52 US on Monday, or 8.9%, to $96.37 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
Approximately $1.2 trillion in market value is gone after the House rejects the $700 billion bank bailout plan in the Dow.
The US light crude oil for November delivery fell $10.52 to settle at $96.37 a barrel, in the second-biggest one-day plunge ever since January 17, 1991.
Oil prices had plummeted over $55 after peaking at $147.27 a barrel on July 11, as investors bet that sluggish global growth will diminish oil demand. But prices have seesawed in the last few weeks as the financial crisis has intensified and investors sought to put their money into hard assets.

Analysis Report: Source of Stonechip
As you all can see from my previous posting. Our serious gang are fixing stone chips on our ride.
Therefore from that time onwards, I analyse the source of those stone chipping. The conclusion shows the source are generally from lorry, trucks, SUV and large sedan with fat tyres.
Basically, you can't avoid but to prevent only.
Tips #1: When cruising on the freeway, ensure maintain a distance from those vehicle listed above and do not tailgating the car in front of your ride.
Tips #2: Do not drive too fast on the highway. The faster speed you cruise, the worst stone chip effect you get.
Tips #3: If possible, prevent driving during peak hours that a lot of trucks will be on the road. The wild stone chips are flying everywhere on the highway.
Tips #4: If the daily route to work have a lot of trucks or passengers with big fat tyres that without mud flaps. Plan to change your job! hahaha:P

Chevrolet Captiva SUV
The 2.4L petrol 4-pot produces 136hp at 5000rpm, with maximum torque of 220Nm at a low 2200rpm. The likely more saleable (better acceptance?) 2.0L turbo-diesel meanwhile, pushes out a healthy 150hp at 4000rpm plus a grunty 320Nm of torque at 2000rpm. Both engines – designed by Italy’s engine maker VM Motori - are mated with a 5-speed automatic transmission with Tiptronic mode.
However, I will stop here by commenting on this SUV. Leave it for my friend - David, to comment further more on his test drive experience. Check out the Comments section of this post.
The indicative prices for the new Captiva are:
2.4L FWD Petrol RM139,252
2.4L 4WD Petrol RM147,252
2.0L FWD Diesel RM146,924
2.0L 4WD Diesel RM155,924
UPDATED: David's Review - 26 Sept 2008
A visit to Chevrolet showroom located alongside its neighbors, Mazda, Volkswagen and Naza Group. Chevrolet had came a long way with almost decade ago with slow growing number of models, and all of the models shares identical frontal grill and body design.
Though this showroom has limited models on display, we decided to test drive something different than ordinary sedans then we ended up picking the Captiva for a spin.
The cues and lines of the Captiva is identified and similarly resembles the other of its sedan siblings. Personal preference I would actually choose this over the all time popular CRV. The exterior bears some cool fender grill, side mirror signal lamp, twin exhausts pipes altogether with a sleek rear wing. While the interior somewhat resembles the KIA Sorento, this cabin is finished with slightly luxurious looking materials on the console and door panel, 7 leather wrapped seats, Multi information display, 8 way speaker system and electronic seat for the driver. Something that irks me on the console, is its knobs are fitted loosely and doesn't gives much feedback and hardly feels clicking. For extra, the dash comes with a cooled glove box and the handbrake lever is the "Samurai Sword" type, similar to the ones found in Proton Gen 2.
We test drive the AWD 2.0 Diesel version, with 150bhp and 320nm of torque at 2,000rpm. During the test course, along Federal Highway with much traffic, there are only few stretch that is clear enough to put its torque and horses to test. The torque kicks in low upon stomping the pedal and the feel of rush lasted several second before the gear changes but did not have the chance to test the max power of 150hp only comes in at 6,000rpm.
With the ride bounds not too harsh on bumps and potholes. The power and ride is adequate for everyday driving and occasional off roads on the weekends.
Other bell and whistles, included are Rain Sensor for wiper triggering, rear auto leveling suspension depending on load, auto leveling headlamps, 5 speed auto with Tiptronic, multi function steering and many nice touches added interior and exterior. To conclude, the Captiva adds itself to list of SUV's with greater variety and offer of equipments, which is of course definitely bang for buck starting at RM139,252 OTR.
Lotus Helps Development of Honda Civic Hybrid Race Car
You might never thought you will be seeing a Honda Civic IMA Hybrid in the air like the one in featured in the picture above in Motorsport Industry.
Of course, this isn’t your ordinary hybrid but a race prepped version of the eco-friendly Civic created by Oaktec. The Lancashire based company has been developing the Honda Hybrid system for motorsport since 2004. Oaktec took part in several rallies around the UK winning the F1000 Class A Championship in 2006 with a Honda Insight. Now Oaktec has joined forces with Lotus to develop the performance of a Civic Hybrid for rallying and circuit racing.
Though no details on the car’s specifications have been revealed yet, Phil Barker, Chief Engineer of Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Technologies at Lotus said that the British automaker will work with Oaktec to create a revised electrical specification for more power and a control system that will allow a more aggressive regenerative braking strategy.

Oris WILLIAMS F1 Team Chronograph
Oris recently introduced the new Williams F1 Team collection, at Baselworld 2008. The new F1 Team Chronograph has the same case dimensions 45 mm x 14 mm and the same reliable Valjoux 7750 movement as the outgoing model, but the new case is made of 316L stainless steel as opposed to titanium.
If you need a good watch to ensure you arrive fashionably late every time, there's nothing more fasionable than one of these little clockwork monsters. In all honesty though, the Oris Williams F1 is a beaut of a time-teller.

Exclusive: Subaru Impreza S-GT 2.0 Turbo Test Drive
Mentioning about Subaru Impreza, people will be thinking the sporty Impreza WRX that look of a classic sedan with a powerful turbo-charged boxer engine and the AWD. Of course, not to mention the WRC and the late Colin McRae...
The style of the new Impreza did a good job of advertising the car and having people talk about it despite high criticism and rough comments from some hardcore fans. With the signs of a new era, Subaru's new policy to go for comfort and safety over performance.
The main differences of S-GT are visible from the side and rear views, comparing to the previous model (GDA/GDB). Even though it is not easy to know the exact reasons behind such a dramatic change for a car that had always been a sedan. The result does take some time to get used to it.
Today, me and my friend visited MotorImage to test drive the Impreza S-GT 2.0 Turbo (AT) as i got the e-brochure sent to me during the launching in Malaysia last month by Paul Teh from MotorImage. He is a nice guy and been with Subaru since the days of Auto Dunia until now. So, no doubt that how well experienced he is. Further, I am a big time fans of Subaru. This is a golden opportunity to test drive this baby and personally review it in my blog.
The moment of this test drive session, the outside temperature is 35 degree celsius which is no good for a turbo-charged vehicle. So, we will see what this S-GT can show us with this newly designed powerplant.
Below are some photo snaps of the showroom unit which is black in colour.
However, for test drive and media review purposes. MotorImage got us a S-GT test unit which newly brought back from AsianAuto for Media Review. I am lucky enough today that I could take this opportunity as next reviewer. Paul arranged the car for us to test drive and place it outside of MotorImage Showroom.
Stepping into the ride...
There are quite a lot of changes as well, the interior reminded me a bit of the look of Toyota Caldina. Especially due to the overall quality feel of the materials. The design is clean and nice, featuring soft colors and absolutely no S-GT logo or any other signs of sportivity whatsoever. The thing is that the Subaru Impreza S-GT is a family car! The new Impreza benefits from the spacious interiors and having generous legroom inside the vehicle which is good for long distance rides.
The ride is quiet, smooth, comfortable and coupled with responsive handling. The steering wheel is light and responsive.
During my test drive session, i accidentally hit 2 small potholes at Sri Hartamas and amazingly i hardly feel it. I would say that the suspension setup is softer comparing to the previous model. I putting the car with hard corner, this baby still maintain the comfort level for all occupants and the road holding ability maintain superb. You will still feel the grip on the road!
Personally, the G-force that generate from this S-GT is lower comparing to the previous model of WRX. Thanks to the new double wishbone design in the rear suspension. This achieve optimal balance of high handling performance, good ride quality and low road noise.
The Impreza S-GT that currently offer by MotorImage is a JDM spec which having 180km/h speed limiter. Hence, you will notice the speedometer showing the top speed of 180km/h only. Of course, you can remove the speed limiter by placing a after-market speed cut module but this void the warranty for sure.
This Impreza S-GT is factory fitted with Twin Scroll Turbine on the 2.0 turbocharged horizontally-opposed engine (boxer engine). With the benefits of twin scroll turbine, the engine doesn't feel much turbo lag and responsive at all range of RPMs. This baby takes you 0-100km/h under 8 seconds with the auto gearbox.
The S-GT is easy to operate and fuel efficient. The auto transmission of this S-GT is known as SPORTSHIFT, and designed by Prodrive Ltd. It is not a normal 4 speed auto transmission, but design for versatile gear change to suit all-driving conditions hence it is very responsive as well.
The automatic transmission offers a semi-auto mode (+ -), making sporty, stable driving possible which allows the driver to fully exploit the SPORTSHIFT system.
An Info-ECO indicator lamp lights up on the meter panel when the car is running in fuel economy mode. This ensure the driver able to maintain the driving style at the most economical and squeeze the max mileage from every tank of fuel.
Clarion HU that come standard together.

Trust (Greddy) Declares Bankruptcy
The market for aftermarket parts from Japan has been declining for well over five years, due in part to decreased demand both at home and abroad and the rising rates of Chinese knock-offs and other inexpensive (and dubiously built) components.
One of the world's largest performance parts companies, known as Trust in Japan and Greddy in the rest of the world, declared bankruptcy. According to Japan's largest credit research company Teikoku Databank announced that automotive parts manufacturer Trust filed for bankruptcy on September 10th, 2008.
Trust is approximately $60 million in debt and, after reporting a serious decline in sales since February 2008 and amassing $43 million in loan payments, filed for bankruptcy in Tokyo District Court.
Trust has been around since 1976, employs almost 200 workers and had been dealing in everything from CARB-legal exhausts to turbo systems when Greddy Performance Products was founded in the U.S. in 1994. There are several firms that will step up to fill the need of enthusiasts, assuming that Trust doesn't try to reorganize, but with the aftermarket industry down overall, we suspect this won't be the last time we'll hear about a large tuner going down.

Civic Type R - New Facelift - 2009 Spec
Honda has given the Civic Type R (JDM Spec) a tiny refresh for 2009.
Don't get too excited though as the changes are only comestic works and NOTHING FOR the power output, suspension setup and trim levels. They are exactly the same as the current outgoing model. Not a bad thing, the potential of K20A on FD2 is strong enough for its class.
Still, it's easy to forgive Honda for leaving the mechanical package unchanged when you feast your eyes on the 2009 FD2 CTR in its new 09 Premium Purple Pearl paint scheme. If that doesn't tickle your fancy though, there's a very sophisticated Crystal Black Pearl and a classy Premium White Pearl hue to choose from too apart from their std colours.
New rear tail lamp and new color variant...

China S-shaped Speed Block
The local government in China’s ShanXi province using a speed bumps like the rest of the world, authorities decided to build a miniature version of the 'Great Wall' in the form of a 30 meter (about 100 feet) long and 2.7 meter wide (approx 9 feet) ‘S’ shaped road barricaded with a 60 cm tall cement wall (around 2 feet).
The speed block has surpassed the local government’s expectations as not only did it slow down drivers, but it has actually created massive traffic jams. Due to the road is so narrow and twisty, a large number of drivers have ended up scrapping their vehicles on the cement wall.
2010 Honda Hybrid
The new affordable hybrid will be a 5-door hatchback and will carry the five-door hybrid’s styling from the lines of Honda’s hydrogen-powered FCX Clarity sedan.
Aimed squarely at the Toyota Prius, Honda’s dedicated hybrid model will be equipped with a revised version of the Civic Hybrid’s 1.3-liter Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) system with the updated nickel-metal-hybrid batteries stored under the cargo space. The reason why Honda decided to stick with the Civic’s ‘mild-hybrid’ system is that it can provide a realistic 45 to 50 mpg without costing near as much as the more advanced powertrain used in the Prius.
The new hybrid car will feature a heavily revised hybrid powertrain with major components made lighter, more compact and placed under the cargo space instead of behind the rear seats like the current generation Civic Hybrid. Weight savings will be significant, further improving fuel economy.
Moreover, the sources forecast the introduction of CR-Z hybrid by model-year 2012, the hybrid Fit by 2015.
Est 1,100 Subaru Owners honor the late Colin McRae
An estimated 1,100 Subaru car owners and thousands more fans honoured the late Colin McRae this weekend with a convoy that stretched more than 30 miles. The Subaru owners left the Rally Champion’s home town of Lanark on Saturday morning. The convoy which was led by Colin’s father Jimmy McRae, drove for nine hours covering a distance of 300 miles to arrive at Prodrive’s headquarters in Banbury on last Sunday morning.
The convoy led by Colin McRae’s original 1996 Impreza rally car, the 1,086 Subaru owners formed a sign almost half a mile long that spelt out ‘COLIN MCRAE’ and the Scottish Saltire in a new official Guinness World Record smashing the previous record by more than 800 cars. The cars then broke a second Guinness World Record by creating the largest parade of cars as they left the Prodrive test track. It is estimated that the event raised nearly £40k for the McRae charities.
