Honda opens its new R&D Asia Pacific centre in Thailand that aimed at automotive research and development for the Asia and Oceania region, as well as developing auto parts in Thailand. It will also carry out style research and prototype testing for CBU units.

The new centre, located in Bangkhen District, Bangkok, will undertake activities such as product planning, styling research, engineering development, and vehicle testing. It is the Honda's fourth automobile R&D centre outside of Japan after the US, Europe and China.

On background in Thailand, Honda was the first automotive manufacturer to open an R&D function in Thailand in 1988, when it established a motorcycle research & development operation, which later expanded into the development hub for the Asia & Oceania region in 1997.

In 1994, the Honda Research Department in Thailand was set up, primarily to develop and supply auto parts in Thailand and support its auto production operations, and in time grew to include product planning and quality control. With the opening of the new R&D centre, Honda will strengthen its automobile operations in addition to its already comprehensive motorcycle-based activities.
