Sand blasting is a process performed by just spraying, or blasting a certain type of material (in this case garnet) onto the entire shell or specific body parts to remove all layers of paint, primer, and body cement.
This leaves a smooth bare metal finish and visible holes as a result of previous rust or oxidation.
Before the car or specific body parts are sent to be welded, they will be treated with a layer of epoxy primer that would protect the bare metal from potential rust.
According to Ramesh, the blasting is performed based on SA 2.5 Charts where it leaves behind 5% of existing sheet condition that works best with epoxy primer products.
Sand blasting your rusty classic is so far the best thing to do if you are looking to a have body condition that is almost as good as new. Each car is charged about RM3,500.
